TROPICAL CYCLONE WARNING NUMBER THREE ISSUED BY THE SOLOMON ISLANDS METEOROLOGICAL SERVICE AT 08:00 AM THIS MORNING ON MONDAY 25TH NOVEMBER 2019.

 

A TROPICAL CYCLONE WARNING IS CURRENT FOR TEMOTU PROVINCE.

 

AT 5:00 AM THIS MORNING, TROPICAL CYCLONE RITA (CATEGORY ONE) WITH A CENTRAL PRESSURE OF 994 HECTOPASCALS WAS LOCATED NEAR 11.5 DEGREES LATITUDE SOUTH AND 169.4 DEGREES LONGITUDE EAST. THIS IS APPROXIMATELY 17 NAUTICAL MILES (31 KILOMETRES) SOUTHWEST OF ANUTA ISLAND, TEMOTU PROVINCE.

 

CYCLONE RITA IS MOVING TOWARDS SOUTH-SOUTHEAST AT 08 KNOTS BETWEEN ANUTA AND TIKOPIA ISLANDS AND STRENGTHENING.

 

GALE FORCE WINDS OF 34 TO 47 KNOTS (63-87 KILOMETRES PER HOUR) OR STRONGER ARE EXPECTED TO AFFECT TEMOTU PROVINCE WITH ROUGH SEAS AND MODERATE TO HEAVY SWELLS (3.0 – 4.5 METRES) AND POTENTIAL COASTAL FLOODING.    

 

EXPECT WINDS OF 15 TO 25 KNOTS (27- 46 KILOMETRES PER HOUR) WITH MODERATE TO ROUGH SEAS OVER WATERS OF RENNELL/BELLONA AND MAKIRA PROVINCES.

 

RAIN WILL BE HEAVY WITH THUNDERSTORMS OVER TEMOTU PROVINCE.

 

PEOPLE SHOULD TAKE PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES AS BAD WEATHER ASSOCIATED WITH THE TROPICAL CYCLONE POSES THREAT TO LIVES AND PROPERTIES.
