TROPICAL CYCLONE WARNING CANCELLATION ISSUED BY THE SOLOMON ISLANDS METEOROLOGICAL SERVICE AT 7:30PM THIS EVENING ON TUESDAY 26TH NOVEMBER 2019.

 

ALL TROPICAL CYCLONE WARNINGS CURRENT FOR TEMOTU PROVINCE ARE NOW CANCELLED.

 

AT 5:00PM THIS EVENING, TROPICAL CYCLONE RITA (CATEGORY 1) WITH A CENTRAL PRESSURE OF 999 HECTOPASCALS WAS LOCATED NEAR 14.7 DEGREES LATITUDE SOUTH AND 169.9 DEGREES LONGITUDE EAST. THIS IS APPROXIMATELY 106 NAUTICAL MILES (196 KILOMETRES) NORTH-NORTHEAST OF MAEWO ISLAND, VANUATU.

 

THE CYCLONE IS MOVING TOWARDS SOUTH-SOUTHEAST AT 09 KNOTS TOWARDS CENTRAL VANUATU FURTHER AWAY FROM THE SOLOMON ISLANDS. 

 

WINDS OVER 33KNOTS (61 KILOMETRES PER HOUR) ARE NO LONGER EXPECTED OVER THE SOUHERN TEMOTU WATERS.

 

HOWEVER SEAS WILL STILL BE MODERATE TO ROUGH WITH MODERATE SWELLS BUT SLOWLY DECREASING.                   

 

THIS WILL BE THE FINAL INFORMATION FOR CYCLONE RITA UNLESS ANY PART OF THE COUNTRY IS UNDER THREAT AGAIN.

TROPICAL CYCLONE WARNING NUMBER TEN ISSUED BY THE SOLOMON ISLANDS METEOROLOGICAL SERVICE AT 8:00 AM THIS MORNING ON TUESDAY 26TH NOVEMBER 2019.

 

A TROPICAL CYCLONE WARNING IS CURRENT FOR TEMOTU PROVINCE.

 

AT 5:00 AM THIS MORNING, TROPICAL CYCLONE RITA (CATEGORY 3) WITH A CENTRAL PRESSURE OF 980 HECTOPASCALS WAS LOCATED NEAR 13.2 DEGREES LATITUDE SOUTH AND 169.8 DEGREES LONGITUDE EAST. THIS IS APPROXIMATELY 77 NAUTICAL MILES (143 KILOMETRES) SOUTHEAST OF TIKOPIA ISLAND, TEMOTU PROVINCE.

 

CYCLONE RITA IS MOVING WEST –SOUTHWEST AT 10 KNOTS TOWARDS VANUATU AND GRADUALLY WEAKENING.

 

GALE FORCE WINDS OF 34 TO 47 KNOTS (63-87 KILOMETRES PER HOUR) OR STRONGER ARE EXPECTED TO AFFECT TEMOTU PROVINCE WITH ROUGH SEAS AND MODERATE TO HEAVY SWELLS (3.0 – 4.5 METRES) AND POTENTIAL COASTAL FLOODING.    

 

EXPECT WINDS OF 15 TO 25 KNOTS (27- 46 KILOMETRES PER HOUR) WITH MODERATE TO ROUGH SEAS OVER WATERS OF RENNELL/BELLONA AND MAKIRA PROVINCES.

 

RAIN WILL BE HEAVY WITH THUNDERSTORMS OVER TEMOTU PROVINCE.

 

PEOPLE SHOULD TAKE PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES AS BAD WEATHER ASSOCIATED WITH THE TROPICAL CYCLONE POSES THREAT TO LIVES AND PROPERTIES.
