WHAT TO DO INFORMATION
CANCELLATION

Situation:
The Solomon Islands Meteorological Service has issued the CANCELLATION OF HEAVY RAIN WARNING at 5PM (1700HRS) this evening, Wednesday 25th April 2018.
However, a trough lies over Solomon Islands so associated heavy rain, showers and thunderstorms will be experienced but now will slowly be easing out.
People and communities are advised to take care and to take the following Safety Actions:
FOR VILLAGE LEADERS / FAMILIES
- Maintain look outs for flooding as some rain heavy rain will still be experienced
FOR PEOPLE IN LOW LYING AREAS UNDER THE THREAT OF FLOODING
- If you are living close to rivers and shorelines you must take extra precaution measures
- When evacuated take only essential Items like radio, mobile phones, torch, knife, food, water, important papers, important medicines
- Store drinking water in sealed bottles as water supply may be interrupted (eg. Dirty or supply cut off)
- Do not allow children to play in the rain and on flood raising water or drainage systems
FOR MOTORISTS
- Be advice to take extra care when traveling in wet, slippery and flood areas
- Make sure you have your lights on and drive at less than 40km per hour speed
- Beware of water covered roads and bridges
- Do not attempt to cross rivers and large streams of unknown depth
